Rochford, A Creative Legacy

In 2023, Philippa Stewart and I were commissioned by Rochford District Council to lead a community project celebrating the district's rich history and heritage. The result of this collaborative, intergenerational initiative, Rochford: A Creative Legacy, was exhibited in the historic setting of Holy Trinity Church, Rayleigh, in August 2024.

The exhibition featured a series of fabric hangings, comprising over 500 cyanotype and hand-stitched artworks created by more than 450 participants during 22 workshops held throughout the district in 2023. This project highlighted Rochford’s vibrant creative communities while honouring its historical legacy.

In addition to the textile hangings, the exhibition included a short video and cyanotype prints documenting the workshops, as well as a hand-stitched church kneeler, further enriching the celebration of community and heritage.
